Favourite Hughenden Memory(s) – There is a kaleidoscope of memories. Those associated with playing days : rugby principally at Garscadden, cleaning the dog faeces off the pitch and then demolishing the “West” 102-6, travelling round to all kindred clubs in the Glasgow area and beyond, and making life long friendships ; playing (rheumatic ) cricket until 2009 when a career best bowling average, 5-14 in 22 balls in an evening league match, was achieved, we lost that game. Post playing being thrilled in refereeing, watching, supporting many young and not so young talented athletes on the rugby fields, travelling by bus to away games, and being poured off the bus at Hughenden, journey’s end, with incipient hangover and strained larynx; watching our talented cricketers from the boundary’s edge while scoring for the 1st X1; being privileged to be accorded the honour of Presidency of both Hillhead/Jordanhill RFC and Hillhead Cricket C.C.; and chair of the Centenary committee in 2004 when members and guests were entertained by Glasgow City Council. Pre- match rugby lunches, dinner dances at Hughenden, representing the Trust at numerous functions as its Chairman. The list is endless, as are the enduring friendships.
